The client brief for this project was to make this small block in Bondi ‘feel’ like it had space whilst being modern with light and air in response to its beach setting. We designed three primary zones: 1, the rear deck with screen planting to stage the landscape; 2, the seamless rear configuration of kitchen, living and dining space and 3, a second level to expand into a master retreat, two additional bedrooms and bathrooms.  A light filled window splash-back in the kitchen and upholstered window seat in the living room joinery are just a couple of the many special details in this home. The home was constructed by our build team at Design Tribe Projects and achieved via a Complying Development Certificate (CDC), which provided for a cost savings and accelerated completion of the construction of the project by our team.

Environmental Features

  • Cross ventilation paths through the home.
  • Overhangs to block the harsh summer sun whilst allowing the winter sun to penetrate deep into the home.
  • Strategic planting and shading in landscape design.
  • Orientation.
