Flanked on both sides by their neighbours and suffering with lack of light and function, our clients in Boundary Street Terrace felt the walls of their house were closing in. While they loved some of the heritage detailing in their home they desired a more contemporary style of living and space for their growing children. Our design focused on the addition of a rear single story to allow for the addition of a multi-use family bathroom as well as an ensuite to the master on the main level. Redesigning the kitchen, laundry and living space provided better ground floor circulation and the opportunity to feature bifold doors running the full width of the rear overlooking the terraced backyard. The rear doors and a new set of open stairs with skylights brightened up the space. The stairs were extended to the attic to create additional bedroom spaces. We added traditional details including architraves, skirtings and balustrades with little touches of wallpaper to honor the heritage charm of this now generous terrace property.
