For the family of four living in Kingsford House, their semi was getting very tight and they had no privacy from their adjacent neighbor. They didn’t want to move and needed to make the most of what they had. We studied the site to understand how we could maximize and control light and ventilation. The first step in our redesign started by adding double height privacy screens with expansive glazing to create a mezzanine level master and ensuite with an elevated feel. Using light and void space to improve the sense of scale in the home, we expanded the external area off the kitchen for entertaining and connected the indoor and outdoors through joinery items such as the BBQ and kitchen island. Using cost effective materials such as reclaimed brick and choosing to add a modern form to the traditional semi added a unique character to the final home.
