The clients of Glenayr House were hopeful that their run down and dingy home could be transformed into a fun, quirky and kid friendly oasis.
We determined that the first step towards this transformation would be to maximize light, which was nearly non-existent in their semi. Creating a design that incorporated a split roof with clear-story windows to one side and a unique open style steel and glass staircase topped by skylights allowed much needed light to cascade into the home.
The fun factor came by way of materials using retro blue coloured cabinets in the kitchen, multi-coloured faux timber tiles in the bathroom along with quirky light fixtures and bathroomware. Storage was very important to the function of the home and we designed creative solutions throughout the interior design to not infringe on the children’s backyard space with imposing outdoor storage.
Open entertaining and flow between the kitchen, living and outdoors was shaped so that visitors and family members could eat, play and mingle in sight of each other.
