The Carey Street House was designed for a family originally from the country who wanted their three boys to enjoy the outdoors within their new beach suburb. The design capitalised on the pre-existing dairy walls and the north facing aspect of the lot where indoor to outdoor areas were easily accessible and able to be enjoyed year round. Extensive glazing in the main living areas showcased the scale and beauty of the exterior landscape. The playful form of the home was a result of the interplay of flat and pitched roof and front facade producing a unique architectural style that played against the surrounding masonry walls. The introduction of recycled Australian timber hardwood cladding and galvanised steel accents in the landscaping and internal stair screen added those special touches to this unique home.
