Putney House, Ryde
Building / Residential
- Type of Building: Free Standing House with Garage and Pool
- Area: Ryde
The Putney House project was a full scale removal of an original residence that was fragmented into small unusable spaces blocking the site’s expansive views of the Paramatta river. The client commissioned us to build them a sanctuary for two adults, a young teenager, two pets, and a future residence for ageing grandparents. Our approach was a classic family home with light, airy and functional spaces that accounted for a multitude of uses and that embraced the steeply sloping site and water views. Features included six-metre high timber and glass screens linking the winter courtyard to the main living space creating a constantly changing shadow pattern as you walk from upper private to lower entertaining areas. To suit the client’s classic and contemporary style we designed a traditional roof form with a modern twist: a surprising cut through the middle of the house leading to a central entry courtyard.
