At only 4 metres wide, The Read Street House was a tiny terrace with very little light in its centre and underutilized space in the lower level.
To solve these issues we introduced large opaque windows in the new dining and kitchen areas to drench the space in natural light as well as adding vertical circulation between the first floor and lower ground level.
We opened up the first floor of this terrace to create movement in the space and added a master bedroom, guest bedroom, shared ensuite and two external courtyard areas to capture the ocean views.
The balance of traditional and modern detailing extended to the roof form in the use of simple cladding and express joints to contrast with original rendered masonry.
