WHAT WE TALK ABOUT

Stepping From Function To Art

By The TribeApril 9, 2019ArchitectureProjectsRandwick

Experienced Architects and designers transform the most functional elements within a house into something special and often important to the experience of the entire space. Staircases are one of those functional items that designers love to play with and recently we were very excited to see one in this Randwick project in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs come to life. This staircase completes this complex project and adds a beautiful sculptural detail using repetition, rhythm and pattern.

The highly detailed floating staircase with bespoke designed steel balustrades and screening was designed by us and created in metal by Matt Franze at Eastern Suburbs Steel Fabricators. The staircase is a focal point in a 7-metre high North facing void and it adds drama and much needed light into the centre of the home. It links the upstairs circulation space with bedrooms and breakout areas and will showcase a single piece of artwork that will be viewed from the dining room below.

Urban Lighting delivered the amazing pendant lights that complement the balustrade and void.  We couldn’t be happier with the final result.
